Spherical Roller Bearings are designed and developed to function in applications where there is a strong possibility of severe misalignment whether from mounting or shaft deflection. These bearings have incredible resistance to shock loads and their self-aligning characteristics provide them with full capacity loading notwithstanding shaft deflection.

These bearings are quite similar to Self-Aligning Double Row Ball Bearings in purpose, excluding the Spherical Roller Bearings which are built to be more robust to carry heavier loads. They are available in both open and sealed forms.
